Bakeries are an invaluable asset in the most productive food chain. They boast the highest food output in the game, however they also have extensive prerequisites. Wheat farms and mills need to be built in order to supply bakeries, requiring considerable manpower to kick off production. Although flour can be bought from the market, it quickly becomes expensive to fuel production lines in the long run.
With enough bakeries, players can produce surplus food quantities quickly, which can be used to hand out higher rations, with increased tax rates in parallel. Although raw bread is profitable on its own, it should only be sold when the increased consumption rates have already been covered, without getting granary stocks to a critical level. Bread can easily become a main food type, while other types are supplied for increased bonuses.
