A century ago, the Shadow Dragon Medeus was defeated by the hero Anri, bringing peace to the continent of Archanea. However, Medeus has been resurrected by the evil sorcerer Gharnef, who has reestablished the Dolhr Empire and formed alliances with other kingdoms to conquer the world. King Cornelius of Altea, a descendant of Anri, takes up the divine sword Falchion to battle Medeus. Tragically, he is killed, and his son, Prince Marth, is forced into exile. Marth seeks refuge in the island kingdom of Talys, where he begins his journey to reclaim his homeland and defeat the forces of darkness.
